Family of the Year / “St. Croix”

At long last the days are stretching a little farther into the evening and it’s already time to start buying summer concert tickets.  And, of course, there is new music making a slow trickle onto our respective listening devices.  Family of the Year has been around for a few years, but has now signed with Nettwerk Records, is releasing a 5-track EP and embarking on a full US tour, including SXSW.

As far as their sound, well, Steven Tyler described them as “the Mamas and the Papas on acid.”  I think that’s pretty spot-on as I sit here and listen to this short cluster of songs that really do make me feel like it’s mid-July and I’m in a convertible driving up the PCH without a care in the world.
