Jay Brannan / Rob Me Blind
Nettwerk
In shops now
This Thursday, singer/songwriter, Jay Brannan will celebrate his birthday and the release of his newest album “Rob Me Blind” at Los Angeles’ Hotel Café. I first saw him perform a couple years ago after hearing his music via homemade YouTube videos (sometimes he’s shirtless or naked in them, but it’s not porn, it’s just how he rolls).
“Rob Me Blind” is his third full-length album, following a stellar collection of covers aptly titled “In Living Cover” in 2009, which is where we first heard his newest single ‘Beautifully.’ The balance of the album offers the guitar lullabies we have come to know him for in that brutally-honest-but-not-angry-way. There’s a little Tracy Chapman on him.
Tracks like ‘Denmark,’ which straddle the line between coffee shop acoustic and radio pop highlight the lyrics and melody, in which Mr. Brannan wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s perfectly fine with that, and it’s why we love him. If you’re unfamiliar with his music, then you should be listening to him right now.
