Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

21 + 22 April 2012

I arrived in Los Angeles as a New York book snob.  I missed The Strand and the (real) edition of the Sunday Times.  It took me a minute to discover the literati scene here.  Turns out, you can find a lot of it while listening to NPR on your way to the annual Festival of Books sponsored by The Los Angeles Times.

The festival once called the sprawling UCLA campus its home, but has now moved to the USC campus downtown, and I will be there with bells on.  The packed schedule over the weekend includes cooking demonstrations from Michael Voltaggio and Gail Simmons, a children’s stage, a YA stage, signings, panels and more than 20 locations around campus for it all to play out.  Folks participating in the festival include: Anne Rice, Betty White, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lev Grossman, Judy Blume, Molly Shannon, Julie Andrews, Michael Ian Black, T.C. Boyle, Tori Spelling, John Cusack and more.  For all the bits and pieces, have a look at the official festival website.

Can’t wait!
